A stabbing incident late Sunday afternoon at Adventureland amusement park on New York’s Long Island left a Florida man in critical condition and ruined a family trip over the Fourth of July weekend.

Police have detained a New York plumber after the attack, which took place in suburban Suffolk County, about 35 miles east of New York City.

At least one child witnessed the chaos, leading to additional charges against the suspect.

Others who were at the park at the time of the attack seemed unconcerned, though they called it a sad event.

“It’s a little bit disturbing, but again, this is becoming less and less news,” Mike LaRocca of Copiague told the station. “It’s becoming more common and expected.”
