Felon Found Guilty in Florida for Attempted Murder

On Saturday, a Florida court found D’Architray L. Sapp guilty of several serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder. This conviction stems from an incident where he assaulted a police officer while trying to flee.

The Winter Haven Public Safety Division reported that the 27-year-old was charged with battery against a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and had three outstanding warrants. These included the attempted murder charge and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment around 8:20 PM after receiving tip-offs about an individual wanted for arrest. Upon arrival, they located Sapp, who reportedly ran into the apartment just before police approached.

Once they confirmed Sapp was inside, the officers evacuated nearby residents for safety. Sapp then came out of the apartment, but as officers attempted to handcuff him, he evaded their grasp and pushed past one of the female officers, knocking her to the ground.

Despite commands to stop, Sapp continued to flee, leading officers to deploy an electronic stun gun. Eventually, both officers apprehended him, and he was taken into custody without further incident. Thankfully, the officer who fell was not injured during the struggle, although Sapp was first taken to a hospital for evaluation following the use of the stun gun.

After being medically cleared, he was booked into the Polk County Jail. His charges included battery against a law enforcement officer and several other counts linked to fleeing and providing false information to police.

Police Chief Vance Monroe expressed relief that no officers were harmed, praising their efforts in safely detaining Sapp. “Our officers did an outstanding job ensuring SAPP was taken off the street and placed behind bars, where he belongs,” Monroe remarked.
