Florida woman abandons teenager and seven dogs for two-week Las Vegas trip, according to authorities.

A woman from Florida faces serious allegations after she reportedly left her two teenagers and seven dogs in dire living conditions while she took a two-week vacation in Las Vegas. Jessica Copeland, 37, was arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on charges of neglecting both children and animals, following concerns raised by family members.

The trouble began when out-of-state relatives made a call on Monday requesting welfare checks for the teenagers in Palatka, Florida. When deputies arrived at the home, the adults present claimed they were just outside cleaning up after Copeland. One of the teens reassured the officers that everything was fine, and the deputies left without further action.

However, later that day, law enforcement received another call about a video showing abuse involving the dogs inside the home. Family members reported seeing three extremely weakened dogs in the home, and they expressed concern about a lack of food and running water, details that hadn’t come up in the initial call.

Upon returning, deputies were let in by one of the teenagers, as the adults were no longer present. What they found inside was shocking: “depressing living conditions” marked by piles of animal waste, trash, and multiple weakened dogs that were clearly without food or water.

The teenager informed the authorities that Copeland had left for Las Vegas on July 21, though their age was not mentioned. Additionally, it was reported that Copeland’s son claimed the house had been in disarray for years due to their mother’s refusal to clean it.

According to the sheriff’s office, two of the dogs were found trapped in a bedroom covered in about four inches of waste, while another was in a cage without food or water, appearing severely ill. The living area was also littered with feces, devoid of proper nourishment for the animals.

Putnam County Sheriff HD Deloha expressed his outrage, describing the situation as “heartbreaking and infuriating.” He stated that the choice to leave her child in such unhealthy conditions while indulging in a vacation was not merely negligence, but “intentional cruelty.”

When the deputies returned on Tuesday morning to manage the situation, Copeland had just come back and was subsequently arrested. Bodycam footage revealed she showed no resistance when informed of the tragic state of her home and the suffering animals left behind.

Copeland now sits in Putnam County Jail facing several charges: one count of child neglect, three counts of felony animal neglect, and one count of misdemeanor animal neglect, with her bond set at $36,000.

The sheriff’s office made it clear that such neglect is unacceptable in the community, emphasizing the need for reflection on her actions.

The dogs, once rehabilitated, will be made available for adoption.
