Florida woman’s body found after she was carjacked, vehicle torched less than 2 hours later

Authorities in Florida reportedly believe they have recovered the body of a woman who was held at gunpoint during a carjacking in the central part of the state. The incident was reportedly caught on camera shortly after she called to say she thought she was being followed by her husband. NBC News.

Katherine Aguas-Vivas, 31, was stopped at a red light Thursday in Seminole County after a man with a gun reportedly forced his way into her white Dodge Durango. Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma said the gunman was wearing a ski mask and may have been carrying an automatic handgun.

Footage of the incident was captured on a cell phone by a witness who was in another vehicle behind the Aguas Vivas. The gunman is seen pointing the gun at the woman before finally opening the door and letting her inside. The man reportedly got out of a green Acura and headed toward a Dodge Durango.

Once the man got into the woman’s car, it immediately made a U-turn and the Acura followed, according to the report. It is believed that at least two victims were involved in the incident.

“She made a U-turn at that intersection, presumably heading here, but probably heading in a direction the suspect didn’t want her to go, and the suspect turned her around again and approached the intersection again. “I believe he gave the order,” the sheriff said.

About an hour and 45 minutes after the horrifying incident was caught on camera, authorities received a call about a vehicle on fire. Lemma said there was too much damage to the vehicle “to identify it with certainty.” A body believed to be that of Aguas Vivas was found inside the car. But officials said DNA and dental records had to be examined before authorities could confirm. Second report.

A total of 12 shell casings were also found at the scene.

Despite the seemingly random nature of the incident, authorities believe it was no coincidence, noting that the suspects “knew exactly who they were following.”

“We are working together again to explain the motive,” he said.

“There’s a lot of unknowns and a lot of things that bother people,” he says. “Why didn’t she and her husband call 911? I don’t know. Why did she stop at a red light? There are so many things we’ll never know, but this… It’s a tragic incident.”
