Floyd Mayweather Cancels Mike Zambidis Match Due to Pending Legal Issues

Mayweather vs. Zambidis Fight Canceled Due to Legal Issues

The much-anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Zambidis has been called off just days before it was set to take place, as organizers faced legal complications.

CSI Entertainment filed a lawsuit against Mayweather in New York on June 18, claiming that he paid $4.65 million upfront for exclusive rights to an exhibition match featuring Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao. They alleged that Mayweather bypassed an agreement to announce a fight with Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis, with another promoter. According to reports, Mayweather’s attorney stated in court that the Zambidis fight in Athens cannot go forward due to the ongoing litigation in the U.S.

Documents acquired by media indicate that the supposed organizers of previous events have sought a court injunction to prevent Zambidis from moving forward with the fight, seeking damages or refunds.

Mayweather’s attorney, Melissa Glass, released a statement saying, “Due to the plaintiffs’ claims being pending without a decision, the Mayweather vs. Zambidis fight will not occur as scheduled on Saturday night in Athens, Greece.”

Reportedly, Glass noted that the threat of legal action “effectively halted event promotion and distribution plans and halted ticket sales.”

Although Mayweather didn’t directly address the legal matters, he posted on Instagram about a week prior to the cancellation, mentioning his name was “all over the place” in news headlines with “everything is moving.”

Athens organizers remarked that “some matches are worth waiting a little longer to get the story right” and assured fans that future matches would be rescheduled.

As of now, no new dates have been provided, and the timeline for resolving the legal issues remains uncertain.
