Focus group reacts to Biden, Trump debate

Democrats responded wholeheartedly and favorably to Biden’s comments on how to tackle the economy, according to a Fox News Digital focus group that voiced approval in real time during Thursday’s presidential debate.

Republicans, Democrats and independents responded live to Biden’s opening argument that his economic record is no worse than that of former President Trump.

“Look at what was left when I became president. What was left to me by Trump,” Biden said. “The economy was in freefall. We were handling the pandemic terribly and people were dying.”

“The economy collapsed. There were no jobs. Unemployment rose to 15 percent,” Biden added. “If you look at everything that was done during his administration, he did very little. By the time he left, things were in chaos.”

Democrats in the focus groups agreed with the president, while Republicans and independents expressed the exact opposite opinion.

Republicans in the focus groups almost unanimously disagreed with Biden’s assessment of the Trump economy.

In the debate, both men argued over inflation, Biden says The economy has been so bad under Trump that there has been no room for the price hikes that so many Americans have endured over the past few years.

Democrats have echoed Biden’s criticism of President Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his support among Republicans and independents has been declining.

But independents seemed to agree to some extent when Biden said he wanted to curb “corporate greed” to lower the prices of basic goods like gasoline, groceries, prescription drugs and housing.

“There’s still work to be done,” he said. “Working class people are still struggling. The combination of jobs and businesses that I’m left with is why we’re facing these problems right now.”

“We are working to bring down prices at the table and that will happen,” he added.
