Katherine Legge Set for NASCAR Weekend at Brickyard
Katherine Legge has previously raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, though not in a stock car.
This month, she is gearing up to participate in both Xfinity and Cup Series races during NASCAR weekend at the Brickyard. She’ll be competing in the Penn Twill 250 on July 26th and the Brickyard 400 on July 27th.
Alongside these two races, Legge’s team has also announced plans to enter Cup Series races in Watkins Glen on August 10th and in Las Vegas on October 12th.
This season, Legge has taken part in four Xfinity races and four Cup Series events. In March, she made history as the first woman to start a Cup Series race since Danica Patrick in 2018, finishing 19th at the Grant Park 165 in Chicago on July 6th, marking her first top-20 finish in NASCAR’s top series since 2017.
At 45, Legge is currently the only woman racing in multiple events across the Xfinity and Cup Series. Toni Breidinger is the sole woman competing full-time in any of NASCAR’s top three series, specifically in the Artisan Truck Series.
This season, Legge has been supported by Live Fast Motorsports with their No. 78 Chevrolet, backed by Elf Cosmetics, and will also have sponsorship from Desnuda Organic Tequila and the Indiana-based venture studio Droplight during the Brickyard race.
“Driving in Indy is always a privilege, but it’s especially thrilling to compete in both Cup and Xfinity races with the support of Desnuda and Drop Light,” Legge mentioned in a statement. “After participating in the Indy 500 in 2023 and 2024, I felt a bit out of the loop this year. However, adding more races to my schedule aligns perfectly with my goals.”
Legge has been in and out of NASCAR since 2018, notably finishing 14th in an Xfinity race at Road America that same year. Over her 20-year career, she has raced in various motorsports, ranging from Indy cars to Formula E and A1 Grand Prix to the 24-hour Daytona. She still holds the record for the fastest qualifying time for women at the Indy 500 and was the first woman to win a significant open-wheel race in North America.
Nonetheless, it seems that NASCAR is where Legge aims to focus her efforts next. Her manager, Klint Briney, has indicated that they are already planning for opportunities in the 2026 season.
“Katherine’s recent successes are no fluke. We are strategically aligning ourselves with partners who share our vision,” Briney said. “As we look ahead to 2026, we are also considering the next steps beyond NASCAR, targeting key events and effective sponsorships to broaden our prospects.”
