The opening ceremony of the Olympics has not even begun, but one major question has already emerged surrounding the Games.
according to London TimesThe food in the Olympic Village is not up to a standard befitting an international champion, much less anyone.
British Olympic Association chief executive Andy Anson told the media there were shortages of chicken, eggs and some carbohydrates, and some meat was served raw.
“They have to improve dramatically over the next few days,” Anson said.
Anson also pointed out that Great Britain had to send a second team chef to France because of growing interest in having British athletes eat at Sissi’s performance lodge rather than in the mainstream Paris Village.
Sodexo Live, which will provide food for the 2024 Olympics, has acknowledged shortcomings so far but vowed to improve.
A company spokesman told The Times of London that the company “takes the complaints very seriously” and is “working to increase supplies to restaurants in the Athletes’ Village”.
The official also noted that “sales volumes have also increased” of foods high in red meat, such as grilled meat and eggs.
One athlete seems to blame increased environmental awareness for why Sodexo Live’s food distribution has so far failed to win even a bronze medal.

“The Olympics are said to be more sustainable and there’s a lot more plant-based food but if you go during peak times it can be hard to even get a piece of chicken,” said one British athlete, who asked not to be named.
There are other big controversies already brewing in Paris, but things aren’t looking very lovey-dovey early on.
The big news story is the firing of the head coach of the Canadian women’s soccer team following the incident of the team spying on a New Zealand training session.
Additionally, concerns remain about the cleanliness of the Seine for long-distance swimming events, while some prominent American swimmers have openly questioned whether all athletes competing in their events are properly tested for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

With competition starting on Wednesday and the opening ceremony scheduled to begin on the Seine River at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Olympic organizers already seem pretty busy.
