Food lover had to shower three times after trying the world's stinkiest food

Man’s Disgusting Taste Test Goes Viral

A man from Louisiana recently faced a foul-smelling culinary challenge that left him needing three showers to rid himself of the odor, as seen in viral Instagram videos that have garnered over 9 million views.

“That’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tried in my life,” James Erinsworth shared with Jam Press during his experience. Erinsworth often samples unusual foods, ranging from raw meat to Costco’s salmon sushi, sharing his adventures with his 55,000 followers on Instagram.

This time, he decided to taste Surströmming, a traditional Swedish dish made from fermented Baltic herring. Inspired by numerous videos of people struggling to eat it, he was curious about just how bad it could be.

In a rather wild clip, Erinsworth opens the can and immediately begins to gag as the pungent smell wafts towards him. “I spilled liquid butt on a dead raccoon, and that smelled worse,” he remarked.

Commonly regarded as one of the smelliest foods in the world, Surströmming is often mentioned alongside other notorious dishes like stinky tofu from China and fermented shark from Iceland.

Erinsworth gave it a go, attempting to eat it with buttered brioche bread, but the first bite was overwhelming, leading him to flee outdoors for some fresh air. “I respect all cultures, but you can keep this,” he added candidly.

The aftermath was intense. “I had to scrub my cookware using bleach, vinegar, and salt multiple times,” he explained, noting that he left the mixture to soak for several days before the smell finally dissipated.

Viewers of his clip didn’t hold back, with one person expressing, “Just looking at this makes me hold my breath—flies are a clear warning that this isn’t for human consumption.”

Others chimed in, suggesting that there seemed to be something off about the fish. “This can is way too bloated. You likely ate a spoiled fish!” one skeptic pointed out.

Despite the unpleasant experience, Erinsworth hinted that he might be open to trying Surströmming again. Perhaps some culinary challenges are just too tempting to resist.
