Foot Locker Planning to Leave High-Priced NYC for Florida

Foot Locker has decided to relocate from Democrat-run New York City to Florida by late 2025 due to rising prices.

She also explained that New York “has long been the epicenter for Foot Locker, and while this will be more cost-effective in the long run, we intend to remain based in New York to maintain our connection to basketball and sneaker culture.”

In an announcement on Wednesday, the city of St. Petersburg said The company partnered with Pinellas County and the St. Petersburg Regional Economic Development Corporation on the relocation.

“Foot Locker's relocation marks an important corporate move and, importantly, another example of impactful, inclusive economic development in our city and the Tampa Bay region,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. “Following the approval of the generations-old Historic Gas Plant District project, St. Petersburg will attract a Fortune 500 company, creating more than 150 jobs and further diversifying our workforce. Our city's partners in helping us secure Foot Locker share our city's commitment to fostering a vibrant and diverse business environment.”

Foot Locker will be the third Fortune 500 company headquarters based in St. Petersburg and the fourth in Pinellas County, joining Jabil and Raymond James in St. Petersburg and TD Sinex in Largo. The Tampa Bay metropolitan area is second in Florida for Fortune 500 company headquarters, after Miami. Pending City Council approval, the company will be offered a base salary and hiring incentives.

In 2023, U.S. Census Bureau data revealed that New York City lost about 500,000 residents over a two-year period, Breitbart News reported at the time.

The report said crime, social unrest and housing prices are driving Americans to move.

Cities such as New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago are all sanctuary cities that provide public benefits to illegal immigrants, and they experience an influx of illegal and legal immigrants every year, resulting in higher home prices and rents that benefit local landlords.”

In early August, oil company Chevron announced it was moving its headquarters from Democrat-run California to Texas “as left-leaning states continue to strangle the company,” Breitbart News reported.
