Footage displays Ja'Marr Chase spitting at Jalen Ramsey prior to the punch

Incident Between Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey

The footage tells a clear story: Ja’Marr Chase seemed to spit during a heated moment with Jalen Ramsey in the Steelers’ 34-12 victory on Sunday.

A video captured by Fox 19 shows the altercation happening with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. It illustrates the two players colliding and then, seemingly, Chase directing spit towards Ramsey.

From there, things escalated quickly. Ramsey retaliated with punches, while players from both teams rushed in to break it up.

Chase has denied the accusation of spitting, but other video footage not shown during the game paints a different picture.

The NFL is set to investigate the incident, and a spokesperson indicated this could lead to disciplinary measures for Chase.

Ramsey was the only player ejected for throwing punches. Interestingly, referees later stated they did not witness any spitting. Referee Bill Vinovich remarked, “No, obviously not. I didn’t see anything that got to that level at all.”

Following the game, Ramsey expressed that the confrontation was solely provoked by what he perceived as Chase spitting. “He spat on me, so it’s over,” he said, emphasizing his disregard for the actual game in light of the incident.

Ramsey described the situation as escalating throughout the match. “It was the first little play before he tried to crack block me or something. I got up from there and we talked about it a bit,” he recounted. He mentioned that Chase had grabbed his mouthpiece from his facemask, which led to a brief push. “It was just a little scuffle,” he said, noting that the referees told them to calm down afterward.

As the game continued, Ramsey recalled more tension, particularly when Chase allegedly spat at him. “I thought it was weird. I’m definitely not going to condone that part,” he stated. He feels confident that the NFL will thoroughly review the incident, noting, “They’ve got 100 cameras. They can investigate. They can know that everything I just told you is true.”
