Car Crashes into Brisbane Synagogue in Possible Hate Crime

New footage has emerged showing a man, allegedly involved, crashing his vehicle into a well-known synagogue in Brisbane, Australia, last Friday. He was then seen driving off into the night.

The suspect, a 32-year-old from Sunnybank, has been charged with several offenses, including intentional damage and a potential hate crime, as stated by Queensland Police.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded shortly after 7:15 PM local time when a black Toyota Hilux utility truck went through the gate of the synagogue on Margaret Street.

In the video, the truck can be seen halting abruptly in front of the synagogue, then reversing into the gate, which collapses on one side.

The driver subsequently shifted the vehicle back into gear and sped away in the same direction.

Law enforcement quickly located the vehicle and apprehended the driver without incident. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

It’s believed that the suspect acted alone, and he is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday. Officials have reassured the public, indicating there is no ongoing threat to the community.

This incident comes just two months after another tragic event, where a father and son were allegedly responsible for Australia’s deadliest terrorist attack during a Jewish Hanukkah celebration. That attack occurred on December 14 at Bondi Beach.

The assailants, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, are accused of killing 15 individuals and injuring many more. During a confrontation with police, Sajid was killed, while Naveed was wounded and now faces multiple counts, including terrorism.

In light of the recent events, Australian Prime Minister Albanese had earlier faced criticism during a vigil for the Hanukkah attack victims.

Additionally, the tensions have sparked clashes between police and anti-Israel demonstrators during a recent visit from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, highlighting ongoing concerns about rising anti-Semitism, which he termed a global emergency.
