A video was released of Vice President Kamala Harris, a former senator from California, protesting the deportation of illegal immigrants, shouting, “Stop the deportations!”
The exclusive footage Reported by Daily MailThe artwork by Charlie Spearing of depicts Reverend Harris walking in the 33rd Annual Kingdom Day Parade in Los Angeles, California on January 15, 2018.
Harris, who was a senator at the time, joined the parade participants in chanting, “Promote education, end deportations, end deportations!” to demonstrate her opposition to the deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States.
The author of this book, Mr. Spearing, Amateur Hour: Kamala Harris in the White Houseposted the video of Harris on his X account.
Under President Joe Biden and Ms Harris' leadership, deportations of illegal immigrants have been reduced to historically low levels.
While more than 3.2 million illegal immigrants were encountered at the border in fiscal year 2023, only 142,580 illegal immigrants were deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during the same period. In fact, illegal immigrants who arrived in the U.S. last fiscal year had a 4.4% chance of being deported by the end of the year.
Aaron Heitke, a former San Diego patrol chief, testified last week that deportation is the most important tool to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.
“The only real way we have to slow and stop illegal immigration into the United States is to deport them to their countries of origin,” Heydtke told the House Homeland Security Committee.
“There is a solution to the problem we face at the border. The solution is very simple and much cheaper than the disruptions that are currently costing us so much time and money: we need to deport illegal immigrants to their home countries,” Heitke said.
Harris echoed sentiments she expressed at the parade as a senator during her unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2019.
At one point, Harris questioned the “mission” of ICE agents tasked with deporting illegal immigrants in violation of federal immigration law, and at another time, she vowed to close most of the country's federal immigration detention centers.
“We're going to shut them down,” Harris said.
Perhaps most significantly, Governor Harris said she would eliminate ICE's ability to issue detention orders for illegal immigrants arrested by local police – a practice that experts have long argued is one of the most important enforcement tools to ensure that illegal immigrants are quickly turned over to ICE agents after being detained by police.
