The Holloway vs. McGregor Fight: A Family Moment
The recent fight between Max Holloway and Conor McGregor turned into quite the family affair.
Rush Holloway, Max’s son, was caught on video taking a jab at McGregor after the latter could not continue in the main event of UFC 329.
“Who’s your daddy? Who’s your daddy now?” Rush shouted, while his mother, Alessa, cheered and reached out with her arms.
The footage captured Rush and Alessa enthusiastically supporting Max from the sidelines as referee Mike Beltran halted the fight.
Rush’s remarks seemed to reference a promotional video where McGregor had referred to Max as his child, claiming, “I gave birth to Max the last time we fought.”
The two fighters first met in 2013, with McGregor winning that fight by unanimous decision in the featherweight category.
On Saturday, Max claimed victory in a rather anticlimactic way, as McGregor injured himself attempting a jumping head kick right at the beginning of the bout.
McGregor made an effort to keep going but struggled to kick with his right leg, prompting Beltran to stop the fight.
According to Max, McGregor didn’t signal to end the fight but kept insisting on continuing, even as it became clear he was in trouble.
UFC president Dana White and others clarified that McGregor’s injury wasn’t something he had before, and that the head kick had been part of his game plan from the outset. He had apparently practiced this kick multiple times in the lead-up to the match.
In a post on social media early the next day, McGregor expressed his frustration, stating, “My head gasket is gone. I was devastated. I didn’t have any injuries before the game.” He mentioned he had been doing kicks and training without issues during camp and found this injury unexpected.
Despite the outcome, the rivalry between Holloway and McGregor might not yet be finished, as Max has expressed interest in a rematch. This came after fans in the arena responded negatively, booing McGregor for what some felt was an unsatisfactory fight experience.
