Football Legend Clay Matthews Analyzes Remarkable Trump Stunt at NFL Draft

Clay Matthews’ Hilarious Stunt at the 2025 NFL Draft

What an unforgettable moment! At the 2025 NFL Draft held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Packers legend Clay Matthews certainly made a splash.

At 38, Matthews took the stage alongside other notable Green Bay figures and even rapper Lil Wayne. When he grabbed the microphone, he claimed that President Donald Trump had sent him a “message” to share with the audience.

“I just spoke with President Trump. He asked all 32 NFL teams to listen up. So, here’s what I have to say,” Matthews began.

With a grin, he delivered the punchline: “My fellow Americans, the bear still sucks!”

This unexpected comment sent shockwaves through the venue, as fans erupted with laughter. Matthews was inspired to pull off this stunt after witnessing last year’s Detroit NFL Draft, which featured icons like Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders. He mentioned this during a recent podcast appearance on “Bussin” with Barstool Sports.

His wife, supportive of the idea, even helped him create a mock letterhead for the playful message. However, Matthews kept his plan under wraps because he suspected the NFL would disapprove, given the current political climate.

“I didn’t want to alert anyone; I figured the NFL wouldn’t be on board,” he said, recognizing the sensitivity around political topics.

As showtime approached, Matthews felt a wave of anxiety because his stunt was completely unexpected. “I was just hoping everything would go off without a hitch, especially since the guys around me were having a blast,” he shared.

Matthews admitted he feared NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s reaction once he went backstage. “I thought, ‘Oh boy, now I might face Goodell’s wrath,’” he said with a chuckle, but fortunately, Goodell responded positively to the stunt, even having the NFL’s social media team capture and share a photo of Matthews’ letter.

It’s certainly an interesting twist for the NFL, moving from a stance of social justice advocacy to embracing a figure like President Trump. You can’t help but admire the unpredictability of sports!
