Football player smears blood on rival in shocking incident: 'Terrible sight'

Turmoil in the AFL: Controversial Incident Shakes the League

The Australian Football League (AFL) is currently facing significant backlash after a distressing event unfolded during a match. In a surprising moment, North Melbourne’s Tristan Shelley was seen wiping the blood of Essendon’s Andrew McGrath, leading to widespread criticism.

It’s anticipated that Shelley will face a suspension for his actions.

Former AFL player Lee Montagna expressed his disapproval during the Fox Footy broadcast, stating, “This is unacceptable and not something we have seen in a long time. I don’t know what Tristan Xerri was thinking in that situation, but we can’t do that. He’s probably going to miss football.” The act, Montagna added, was alarming, revealing a side of the game not often seen.

Reports suggest that 27-year-old Shelley sustained a nosebleed after a couple of hits during the game.

In a tangled moment on the field, Essendon’s Archie Roberts collided with McGrath, only for McGrath to retaliate with a forearm strike, sending Shelley to the ground.

Shelley then stood up and, despite the chaos, gestured to the referee, seemingly perplexed about the lack of a foul being called.

Following this, the situation escalated when he confronted McGrath. In an inappropriate display, Shelley wiped his nose multiple times, eventually smearing the blood onto McGrath’s face as other players attempted to intervene.

The incident has led many to call for Shelley’s suspension, with some recalling Nathan Buckley’s one-game ban for similar behavior back in 2002.

Critics echoed the sentiment that such actions set a poor example, particularly for younger players. Jay Clark from the Herald Sun remarked, “It’s terrible… for the children of the world… This is an allegation of serious misconduct under AFL tribunal guidelines, which means it will be referred directly to the tribunal and a suspension of several weeks, possibly two weeks, will be considered.”

In the end, Shelley’s team managed to win with a score of 81-69, marking their improvement to 2-1, while Essendon continues to struggle, falling to 0-3.
