Bailey Ann became the first transgender person to win the Miss Maryland USA pageant. Ann is the first transgender person to win the title, as well as the first Asian American and first “military wife” to represent the state.

According to the Miss Maryland USA Instagram account, the winner will go on to work for the United Service Organizations (USO), a Department of Defense organization that promotes morale for soldiers.
In an interview DC News NowAfter finding out he’d be crowned, Ann said, “It was a huge thing for me. I knew it was going to mean a lot to all the LGBTQ kids out there who might feel like they don’t fit into the box like I did growing up.”
“I’m 31 and I feel more confident in myself. The age limit is 28 but as you know the Miss Universe Organisation has now removed that limit so women of any age can compete.”
“I hope this program will open doors and open people’s minds to let them know that there are many different sides to the LGBT community,” Anne said. “I also hope that I can make a positive contribution to society by making a difference, just like the USO program I work with.”
The winner will travel to Los Angeles to compete for the Miss USA title on Aug. 4.Number.
