On the issue of allowing abortion at any time, adult voters generally take a pro-life or pro-choice position. However, from the perspective of the unborn child, that choice can mean life or death.later Supreme Court Judgment in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organizationturned over Roe vs. Wade And while he argued that abortion is not a constitutional right, states are working on the right policies.
Americans generally don’t like taking lives. A question that cannot be answered definitively is: “When is a fetus considered a living being?” At what point does a fetus enjoy the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”?
The country is deeply divided, which forces us to look for compromises.
Many pro-life Americans argue that life begins at conception. Some argue that life begins when a heartbeat can be detected, approximately at 6 weeks of age. Some people say that a fetus should be considered as a life as much as possible. survive outside the womb, approximately 23 weeks. Some argue that life does not begin until the child leaves the womb.
One supporter of abortion up to birth told me: “Life begins with the child’s first breath and ends with the child’s last breath.” According to this view, the fetus has no rights while it is still in the womb.
If so, abortion should be allowed up until the time of birth. But few Americans support that position. Even those who support late-term abortion believe that: very Late-term abortions should not be allowed except in special circumstances.
Each state can now set its own abortion policy. States such as California, Illinois, and New Jersey tend to enact policies that favor mothers at the expense of their unborn children.States such as Florida and Texas I believe that unborn children have rights. At some point during pregnancy.
Pro-choice advocates focus their arguments on mothers, not children. A mother has the right to choose the fate of her unborn child long before conception. They argue that this ensures the reproductive health of the mother, but completely ignores the rights of the fetus.
before reversing Roe vs. Wade, the consensus seems to be that if a fetus can survive outside the womb, it has a right to life. Very religious people argue that they are by no means satisfied with the 23-week limit because these rights begin much earlier, perhaps from the time of conception.
Our country is so divided that we are left searching for compromises, which vary widely from state to state.
Politically, Democrats tend to win arguments by focusing on the rights of the mother and completely ignoring the rights of the unborn child. Republicans are trying to focus on the rights of unborn children. Unfortunately, fetuses do not vote.
The compromise position is to allow abortion upon request up to the 15th week of pregnancy. Very religious Americans won’t like this, but it’s a compromise that most Americans support.
Perhaps Republicans should focus their discussion on the unborn child, so that if Democrats support a “pro-choice” position, they are really saying they are pro-death.
That could be a winning issue for Republicans. As recently as the 2022 election, Democrats used pro-choice arguments to victory, noting that Republicans wanted to strip women of their reproductive rights. In reality, Republicans simply want to combat the pro-life position by recognizing the rights of unborn children.
