Ford Motor Company is raising prices on three models produced in Mexico, a move that’s partly influenced by President Trump’s tariffs impacting the automotive sector.
The prices for Ford’s Bronco Sport, Maverick Pickup, and Mustang Mach-E Electric SUVs will see increases of up to $2,000 on certain versions. On Wednesday, I referenced a copy of the notification sent to dealerships, as reported by Reuters.
On that same day, the Bronco Sports Heritage Series saw a $600 price increase, while the Maverick XLT AWD’s price rose by $700.
“There are also various other pricing adjustments related to items like hard bed covers and glass roof options. This is a standard practice in our business,” a Ford representative mentioned in an email to The Hill.
“This is typical mid-year pricing behavior, adjusted by some of the tariffs we are encountering. We’ve set these prices, but vehicles currently in stock at dealers won’t be affected,” Deep added, noting that the company’s employee pricing program would remain in effect until July 4th, when it will be rebranded as “America, America to America.”
Typically, automakers based in Michigan modify prices halfway through the year. Deep explained this often happens “in conjunction with the tariffs we’re facing.”
“We haven’t passed all the customs duty fees onto our customers,” the spokesperson emphasized. “Our strategy through this evolving situation remains focused on doing right by both our customers and our business.”
This price increase comes shortly before a major company forecast estimates that Trump’s tariff policies could cost around $1.5 billion for 2025.
Since the majority of Ford’s vehicles are manufactured in the U.S., the company isn’t directly impacted by the 25% tariffs on automobiles put in place by Trump in late March.
Recently, Trump lessened tariffs on imported cars and auto parts while imposing higher rates on foreign auto components. The company is also looking for ways to incentivize the production of domestic vehicles.
Although vehicles already at dealerships and those currently on the road won’t see price changes, Deep noted that the hike will affect Ford vehicles built after May 2nd. Models produced after that date qualify for the employee pricing plan introduced in early April.
