Ford’s New Headquarters Announcement

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently discussed the automaker’s decision to push back the launch of its electric pickups and vans to 2028. He emphasized that this approach would prove to be a more streamlined way to develop electric vehicles (EVs), helping to cut production costs and make their models more affordable. The focus, he noted, is firmly on American manufacturing.

In a significant move, Ford has announced plans to relocate from its current “Glass House” headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, to a new facility a few miles away, set to open in November. The Glass House, built in 1956, will be demolished approximately 18 months after the move.

According to a letter sent to employees by Bill Ford and Jim Farley, the new building, which will be called the New Ford World Headquarters, is more than just a physical space—it represents a catalyst for innovation and an essential part of the company’s transformation journey. They emphasized the need for collaboration in this new era.

This new headquarters will occupy 2.1 million square feet—twice the size of the old Glass House—and aims to unite the company’s engineering, design, and technology teams all under one roof.

The building will also bear the name of Henry Ford II, the grandson of the founder, Henry Ford, who served as CEO from 1945 to 1979. When completed, the new location will have 14,000 employees within a 15-minute walk.

Features of the new facility will include six design studios, an expansive product showroom, a 160,000 square foot food hall, wellness spaces, and over 300 high-tech meeting rooms.

This site will be built on the grounds of the old Ford Product Development Center, inaugurated in 1953, which hosted notable vehicles like the Mustang, Thunderbird, and F-Series trucks.
