Ford recalls almost 625,000 vehicles in the US due to issues with seat belts and camera displays.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed on Friday that Ford is recalling roughly 625,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to safety concerns related to seat belts and camera displays that could raise the chances of accidents.

Specifically, certain Mustang models from 2015 to 2017 are part of this recall, with about 332,778 vehicles affected. The issue stems from a seat belt anchor cable that may corrode and break over time.

Ford noted that exposure to water and road salt could lead to the deterioration of front seatbelt pretensioner cables.

This corrosion might damage the cables, compromising the seat belt’s ability to effectively restrain the driver or passengers, which can increase injury risks in a crash.

Vehicle owners will need to visit a dealer, where front seat belt cables can be inspected and replaced at no cost. Additionally, the dealership will remove any carpet that comes into contact with the cable.

Letters explaining these safety risks will be sent out to owners later this month, with further notifications expected by January 2026 when relief measures are finalized.

In another recall, certain 2020-2022 models of the F-250 SD, F-350 SD, and F-450 SD are being recalled due to problems with rearview camera images. This recall affects about 291,901 vehicles.

The 360-degree camera system might not show the rearview image correctly under particular lighting conditions, which could appear either overly bright or dim.

The automaker reported that this defect could hinder drivers’ visibility behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of accidents.

When owners bring their vehicles to the dealership, the software for image processing will be updated free of charge.

Ford plans to inform owners of the identified safety risks by October 20, 2025, and will send more letters once the final relief is in place, likely by March 2026.

Interestingly, the company mentioned that it hasn’t yet registered any accidents or injuries stemming from this recall.

This recall is part of a broader pattern for Ford, one of the major U.S. automakers based around Detroit. In fact, during the first half of 2025, Ford surpassed all other automakers in safety recalls issued.

Since 2020, Ford has consistently reported the highest or second-highest recall numbers within the industry.

By the end of June, Ford had issued 88 safety recalls, with around 120 recorded so far this year.
