Moviegoers attending “The Odyssey” over the weekend experienced an unexpected jolt when the trailer for “The Other Mummy” aired before the film.
This horror flick, featuring Jessica Chastain as a character named Ursula alongside her sinister demon double, debuted alongside the Matt Damon-led feature, both under Universal Studios, which hit theaters on July 17.
The official trailer was made available online on Tuesday.
As people awaited the start of “The Odyssey,” one attendee shared, “Jessica Chastain’s head and twisted figure popped out from under the table, and I jumped right out of my seat.”
Another viewer added, “I usually think I’m pretty immune to jump scares, but that table scene really got me.”
“There was so much buzz about this #OtherMommy trailer at two screenings of The Odyssey this weekend… @blumhouse, it’s going to be quite the experience,” tweeted another moviegoer.
Meanwhile, someone else remarked, “What was that mom’s trailer before the Odyssey started? It was kind of intense,” pointing out the collective gasps that erupted in the theater. “No one was prepared for Jessica Chastain to suddenly appear like that at 10 a.m.”
The film, adapted from the New York Times best-seller titled Incidents Around the House, follows an eight-year-old girl named Bella, who faces a malevolent force emerging from her closet. This sinister figure, dubbed her “other mom,” poses a growing threat to her family.
Scheduled for release on October 9th, “Other Mommy” features Chastain along with Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen.
This marks Chastain’s return to the horror genre, having previously appeared in films like Take Shelter (2011), Mama (2013), Crimson Peak (2015), and IT: Chapter 2 (2019).
“Other Mommy” is set for an October 9 theatrical release.
