“Democrats need to stop making this incredibly irresponsible statement that Trump is an existential threat to democracy. He is not,” former Attorney General William Barr told Fox News.

The statement came just hours after an attempted assassin shot former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Republicans were quick to link the attacks to Democrats accusing Trump of being authoritarian, dictatorial or anti-democratic.

The Biden campaign’s central argument is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. This rhetoric led directly to the attempted assassination of President Trump.”
