Insights on the Biden-Harris Dynamic
There’s this notion floating around: “She can’t do it, so he has to run.” The “she” refers to Vice President Kamala Harris and “he” is President Joe Biden. The implication? Biden’s team doesn’t have faith in her abilities.
It’s a fair question to wonder why Biden chose her in the first place. I found myself pondering this in the cozy confines of Brightstar, the first lady’s plane.
But when I inquired about this, all I got was silence. Deflection. Just the usual course of affairs.
We were instructed to stick to the line: “No one has been running for president for four years.” That seemed to be the overarching strategy.
The latest excerpts from Harris’ forthcoming book reveal that whispers have circulated among insiders for years, suggesting the “Biden Bubble” was filled with bullies. Finally, she’s voicing the unmentioned reality.
Harris has pointed out the lack of “impossible” support from Biden’s communications team and inner circle. While Biden may hold the record for winning the most votes in presidential history, he seems to lack the genuine connection with everyday Americans. It never felt like he had the backing of his own party. That foundation crumbled quickly.
The atmosphere in the Biden White House often resembled a scene from a high school drama, reminiscent of “West Side Story.” Some believed they were a big deal because they had experience from previous administrations. But it looks like they missed the shifts in media and politics. Coming from a time under Trump, their understanding of political instincts was lacking.
Interestingly, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi remarked about Biden’s team, stating, “I’ve never been impressed with his political tactics.”
No one, it seems, had the courage to admit the lack of momentum. They strutted around as if they were continuing the success of President Obama’s administration, even though they lost 13 House seats along the way. From the moment Biden became the nominee, no one was willing to acknowledge what was evident.
Harris has noted that Biden appears “tired” and that his mental decline is often pushed aside, as if to deny the obvious.
Within the White House walls, loyalty and influence seemed to be dictated by a select few. It felt unclear whether Biden or these influential figures were truly in charge. The lines were blurred.
Joe and Jill Biden, while warm and compassionate, have inadvertently enabled some rather unkind individuals in politics. This contradiction seems to embody the Biden administration.
I remember believing in Biden heartily. After hearing Birnburner speak at the 2018 Human Rights Campaign Gala, it struck me that he might be the one to take on Trump. His commitment to standing up for marginalized youth resonated deeply with me, given my past experiences.
A year later, I found myself as the chief spokesman for his active spouse.
In the summer of 2020, Jill reintroduced herself to the nation through her children’s book about young Biden, portraying him as a young leader who stood up against bullies.
Valerie Biden Owens noted in her memoirs how they were all expected to confront bullies, painting Biden’s mission as one of salvation from Trump, viewed as the ultimate bully.
Yet, bullying can be pervasive even within Democrats, which adds an uncomfortable layer. As I delved into the challenging world of occasional critics, I raised questions about Biden’s reelection strategy. When the economic narrative was “Bidenomics is working,” I expressed my concerns—it felt misguided. If everything appears blue, how can we claim the sky is red?
Nicole Wallace from MSNBC cautioned me that it often felt like “friendly fire” when disagreements arose. But she emphasized the importance of maintaining credibility.
I desired to be seen as serious, not just another puppet spouting the party line. I balanced my affection for the Biden family with a commitment to honest analysis.
However, those loyal to the president didn’t see it that way. They criticized me for not fully aligning with the team. It felt like a warning aimed at any Democrat voicing concerns ahead of 2024.
But eventually, the undercurrents of their unrest will become evident on a broader stage. In time, the bullying tactics and their credibility may collapse under scrutiny.
Right now, Biden’s supporters seem to be pulling him down—and they also aimed for Harris. Recently, when former team members reached out, I got a peek into their hesitations surrounding Harris’ book excerpts.
Yet, so far, Harris remains unyielding. This time, she recognizes what’s at play. She’s standing up.
I genuinely hope she continues to candidly share her experiences as she embarks on her promotional tour. From my perspective, she appears to sleep well at night.
