Trial Date Set for Darius Miles
Former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles is set to face a capital murder trial starting on December 1 in Alabama Circuit Court. This comes more than two years after his arrest linked to a fatal shooting incident in Tuscaloosa.
23-year-old Michael Davis, Miles’ co-defendant, was convicted of capital murder in May and is currently serving a life sentence without the chance of parole. Miles is accused of assisting Davis in the murder of Jamair Harris.
Davis, who has been friends with Miles since childhood, was found guilty of firing the shot that killed Harris while in the passenger seat of a Jeep, during an altercation with Harris’ boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. His legal team argued that Davis acted in self-defense against Johnson.
Prosecutors allege that it was Miles who provided the gun used in the murder.
Brandon Miller, a teammate of Miles who now plays for the Charlotte Hornets, had previously been associated with the case after it was claimed that he delivered the weapon used in the crime. Text messages exchanged between Miller and Miles prior to the incident indicated that Miller had picked Miles up, unknowingly with the gun in his vehicle.
However, during Davis’ trial, Miller testified that he had no knowledge of the firearm being present in his car at that time. He has fully cooperated with the investigation and has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
It remains unclear whether Miller will be called to testify in Miles’ trial, similar to his involvement in Davis’ case.
Since his arrest on January 15, 2023, Miles has been held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail. During his time with the Crimson Tide from 2020 to 2023, he played in 53 games, averaging 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds while standing 6-foot-6.
