Former astronaut corrects reporter’s use of ‘mankind’

Former astronaut Mae Jemison has shut down reporters’ use of the term “humanity” and said it should not be used if it should be advanced from the perspective of what people think when discussing space travel.

Jemison was an astronaut Space Shuttle Efforts In 1992, it was providing commentary to CBS prior to the launch of all female celebrity crews who entered what was technically considered space.

Members of the crew include singer Katy Perry, CBS host Gale King, activist Amanda Nuguen, scientist Aisha Bow, film director Kellianne Flynn and Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez.

Early on the flight, CBS host Vladimir Datie I asked Jemison. He made a clear mistake when he used the term “humanity” to explain why all space travel was important to science.

“Explain why, even on trips like this, all the travel we make in space benefits humanity,” said Jemison, setting up.

“That’s why it benefits humanity,” Jemison said. “And I will continue to modify “humanity,” “artificial,” and “manned missions.”

Duthier apologised, “Humanity. I’m sorry, sorry.”

“They can go up into space and spread what they feel in a variety of ways.”

As reported by Sky Newsthe mission was intended to create “lasting generational impacts,” but it seems impossible to remember, given that crews are not considered as astronauts by federal agencies such as the FAA, NASA, or the US military branch. There are different eligibility requirements that are not all met.

The Sanchez-chosen crew took an 11-minute trip on a reusable, self-driving rocket that traveled 62 miles of the Earth. The 62-mile mark is known as the Kalman Line and is internationally considered the official boundary of the universe. Meanwhile, the crew had about four minutes of weightlessness.

Sanchez said Elle Her mission choice was based on each woman’s proven ability to inspire other women.

“All of these women are storytellers in their own right,” Sanchez argued. “They can go up into space and spread what they feel in a variety of ways.”

Travel comes as a real female astronaut, Suni Williamsrecently returned to Earth after being stuck in space from September 2024 to March 2025. She was meant to be in space for just two weeks, along with the other crew, before shuttle complications and politics kept the astronauts much longer.

The first female crew was a solo flight into space by Russian engineer Valentina Tereshkova in 1963.
