Former Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Chad Johnson is heading to Las Vegas ahead of Super Bowl VV.
Johnson hasn’t caught a pass in an NFL game since 2011, but hinted Wednesday he could return to the league. During an Instagram Live, Johnson announced that he “got the job” with the Las Vegas Raiders. The specific nature of the potential opportunity remains unclear.
“Yes, I got a job with the Raiders,” Johnson initially said on Instagram Live, according to Sports Illustrated’s Fun Nation. “Not just as a staff member, but as part of an organization. I don’t know what exactly that is, but it’s nice to be part of a team.”

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Johnson wrote to X during a dinner with Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce that he was “asking for the Raiders job.”
“I’m going to have dinner with Antonio Pierce and ask him to work with the Raiders in some capacity to diversify my portfolio and resume. If all goes well, this will be my 39th job,” Johnson said. “It will be,” he wrote, along with a praying hands emoji. .
Less than an hour later, Johnson made another post that appeared to announce that he was joining the Raiders’ coaching staff.
“I am officially a member of the Raiders coaching staff,” Johnson wrote.
Mr. Johnson also shared screenshots of a text message exchange with an unidentified person who did not appear to believe what Mr. Johnson was saying.I was hired. ”

Pearce then appeared to confirm Johnson’s claims by replying to Johnson’s post: “Please let me be your coach.” Then he goes on to suggest that the Raiders are “taking over the NFL with 85 former players and coaching 17 of them.”
The number “17” likely comes from the jersey number of Raiders wide receiver Davante Adam. Vic Taffer of The Athletic reported that Johnson could be named a team consultant.

Johnson has previously made claims related to the Raiders on social media that were ultimately not proven to be true. A few years ago, Johnson said he completed a tryout with the Raiders. However, the team ultimately denied that tryouts took place.
Johnson has never officially worked as a coach at the NFL level, although he briefly assisted the Cleveland Browns’ receivers during training camp in 2016.

Johnson was selected to six Pro Bowls during a standout 11-year playing career. He is a member of the Bengals’ Ring of Honor and finished his professional football career with 11,059 receiving yards.
Since leaving the NFL, he has appeared on reality TV, tried his hand at a career as a professional football player, and currently co-hosts the podcast “Nightcap” with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe. .
