Former Biden advisor Andrew Bates takes part in private House investigation into autopen usage

Investigation into Biden’s Health Cover-Up Intensifies

The House Oversight Committee is ramping up its probe into claims regarding a cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s health issues, allegedly involving the use of an autopen—a mechanical device used for his signatures on documents.

Andrew Bates, previously a spokesman for the White House, was the latest to appear for questioning. He voluntarily arrived at Capitol Hill on Friday morning but did not comment as he entered the closed-door session.

Bates is the eleventh former official from Biden’s administration to be questioned by the committee.

During his time in office, Bates was part of Biden’s communications team, eventually rising to the role of senior deputy press secretary by the end of Biden’s tenure.

“I was proud to support Joe Biden as president because we share the same values. It was clear in the White House that Joe was in charge. That reflects my experiences with him,” Bates noted in his opening remarks.

Bates used much of his testimony to criticize former President Donald Trump.

“Now someone with a very different character is in charge. Every Republican on the Oversight Committee voted to add $3.4 trillion to the national debt as tax benefits for the wealthy. Meanwhile, they’re investigating Joe Biden—an honorable man who oversaw a better economy than what we have now—while ignoring the corruption under Trump,” he stated.

The committee has accused Bates of participating in the alleged cover-up regarding Biden’s health.

“Andrew Bates was part of the Biden cognitive decline cover-up and is delusional. His statement, leaked during his interview, only repeats the same narrative he’s selling. The public has witnessed Biden’s decline firsthand,” a spokesperson for the Oversight Committee remarked. “Recent records show that Biden neither approved nor may have even been consulted about thousands of pardons—this is a significant scandal.”

In the concluding phases of Biden’s presidency, numerous individuals received clemency with the autopen used for Biden’s signature. Bates has denied claims that his team undermined Biden’s authority, asserting he was unaware of decisions made during the final months, despite the National Archives lacking evidence that Biden attended crucial meetings about these clemencies.

“It was universally accepted in the White House that Biden was in charge. That aligns with my experiences with him,” Bates maintained.

Last month, former senior advisor Ian Sams testified before the committee, revealing that he had only spoken to Biden twice in four years, despite regularly making announcements on his behalf.

James Comer, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has suggested potentially bringing former Vice President Kamala Harris in for questioning, mentioning that it might be beneficial to hear from her as well.
