Former Biden advisor Anita Dunn involved in GOP autopen investigation, states Biden has 'physically aged' but continues to drive decision-making

Testimony from Anita Dunn in Biden Investigation

Anita Dunn, a former senior adviser to President Biden, recently testified behind closed doors before the House Oversight Committee. This testimony is part of a broader investigation examining the cognitive fitness of various Democrats.

In the session, Dunn asserted that Biden has made all the critical decisions expected from someone in his role. She suggested that, as typical for a president, he relied on senior advisers to prioritize tasks and manage daily operations in the White House, while still demonstrating clear authority in decision-making. Dunn expressed that during her interactions with him, Biden was engaged and contributed meaningfully to discussions and strategies.

“President Biden has been very active in his role, despite the natural aging process that occurs for every president,” she remarked. “His direction was evident during my time working with him.”

Moreover, Dunn emphasized that decisions were not made by staff without Biden’s knowledge or approval, stating, “The president made it clear that the decision was on him.” She reiterated her belief that Biden is effectively meeting his responsibilities as president.

However, a spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee viewed Dunn’s remarks differently, describing them as a continuation of the lengths Biden’s supporters will go to defend what they consider a struggling presidency.

“It’s typical for Anita Dunn to ask Americans to disregard what they see. Biden repeatedly claims he’s fully engaged, but this leaked statement signifies more of his allies protecting his faltering presidency,” the spokesperson commented.

Among those involved in the investigation, three out of ten former Biden administration officials have chosen to invoke the Fifth Amendment, avoiding key questions that might shed light on the matter.

Dunn, a Democrat and former communications director for Barack Obama, was brought aboard Biden’s 2020 campaign to bolster his media strategies. She previously held a senior communications advisory role in the White House before increasing her influence in the president’s 2024 reelection campaign.

In a letter, Comer expressed his reasoning for summoning Dunn. He referenced the need to understand former President Biden’s mental health and overall leadership capabilities. He cautioned that if staff have been concealing the president’s state for an extended period, Congress might need to take legislative action.

Comer’s investigation also delves into what he denominates the “original sin” associated with Biden’s White House actions, a theme highlighted by journalists examining the administration.

Reports suggest that senior advisers, including Annie Tomasini, acted as key decision-makers during Biden’s presidency.
