Former Biden security employee detained for the murder of SFSU graduate

A former security staff member for President Joe Biden has been arrested on a serious murder charge in San Francisco. Nation Wood, aged 25, was taken into custody just a day after he allegedly shot and killed Samantha Emge, a 22-year-old graduate of San Francisco State University, at a residential location in the city’s Sunset district.

Interestingly, Wood recently indicated on his LinkedIn profile that he would start working as a part-time security guard for Biden’s Secret Service team in November 2023.

His profile describes him as an “independent pre-event site security advisor,” and it mentions his previous role in the White House, where he served under President Donald Trump until July 2025.

On LinkedIn, Wood stated that he worked as an advance security officer, conducting “security assessments for locations hosting events attended by VIPs.” His experience, according to his page, includes field visits and coordinating efforts with the U.S. Secret Service.

Authorities reported that Wood shot Emge at a home close to Ocean Beach. When police arrived at 10:43 p.m., they found Emge suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a hospital but unfortunately did not survive. Following the investigation, homicide detectives collected evidence against Wood, leading to his arrest on charges of manslaughter. He is currently held in the San Francisco County Jail.

Wood graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in political science and government in May 2024, based on his LinkedIn account.

Interestingly, Emge had shared a photo on Instagram showing her with Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, in front of the presidential plane back in 2024.

This picture highlighted Emge’s interactions, as she is seen enjoying time with Wood in several posts on her social media.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Emge had transitioned into a career in interior design after graduating. A friend of hers mentioned to SF Standard that Wood was her boyfriend.

On her Instagram, Emge documented moments with Wood, including a trip together to Yosemite after her graduation.

Following the incident, friends of Emge expressed their grief online, with one posting a heartfelt “RIP” accompanied by a heart emoji.

The local director, Alan Wong, hinted that Emge’s death might have been accidental, sharing that early information suggested it may not have been deliberate.

Wood’s LinkedIn profile also notes his past role as a property manager at a self-storage facility. However, Secret Service representatives have not yet responded concerning Wood’s alleged previous employment.
