Former Chicago Sky star latest WNBA player to join Unrivaled Basketball League

list WNBA The list of players who have committed to play in the Unrivaled Basketball League continues to grow, with The Sun’s Marina Mabry announced Saturday as the latest addition to the 30-player list. Mabry will head to Miami in January to join the 3-on-3 league featuring the WNBA’s top players.

Mabrey is one of the league’s best scorers this season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. She spent the first half of the season with Chicago before leaving the Sky to join the Sun last month. The 27-year-old is known for her competitive nature and consistent three-point shooting — she’s made 36 percent of her career three-point attempts — but she also has a fiery temper that makes her a formidable opponent.

“She’s a good kid,” Alyssa Thomas said at a Sun practice earlier this week. “She wants to win.”

Mabry joins a host of notable players who forego international play during the WNBA offseason to instead join a new 3-on-3 league led by stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart that also includes one-on-one tournaments with the winner earning a minimum prize of $250,000.

With the addition of Mabry, the roster of WNBA basketball players affiliated with Unrivaled now includes:

  9. Jackie Young (Ace)

  10. Angel Reese (Sky)

  11. Dearrica Hamby (Sparks)

  12. Kayla McBride (Lynx)

  13. Marina Mabry (Sunday)

So far, the Mystics and Fever are the only two WNBA teams that have yet to announce an Unrivaled player, but there’s a good chance that Caitlin Clark will join. Napheesa Collier revealed on X that four rookies are on the shortlist, with only one (Angel Reese) having been announced.

Asked earlier this week about the possibility of joining Unrivaled, Clarke was evasive.

“To be honest, that’s all I’m focused on right now.” she told reporters. Tuesday. “One thing at a time. I can’t always move on to the next thing. My focus is here.”

Seventeen more names are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
