Former CIA Chief Brennan unaware of possible FBI inquiry

Investigation into John Brennan Raises Questions

Former CIA director John Brennan expressed surprise on MSNBC regarding the FBI’s investigation into him. He described his knowledge of the situation as “ignorant,” particularly after reports surfaced about potential misconduct linked to the Trump-Russia investigation.

A source within the Justice Department indicated that current CIA director John Ratcliffe had provided evidence of possible fraud to FBI director Kash Patel, mentioning the 2017 Russian conspiracy investigation in this context. Additionally, there are reports of an ongoing investigation concerning former FBI director James Comey.

During an appearance with Nicole Wallace on “Deadline: The White House,” Brennan stated that he had previously testified before several Congressional committees about the investigation’s decisions and details.

Brennan remarked, “I think the individuals involved in gathering intelligence prior to the election displayed the best efforts of the Intelligence Community and the CIA.” However, he noted that he was unaware of the specifics regarding the investigation into him.

He mentioned that he had yet to receive any communication from the Department of Justice on this matter, adding, “So I’m uncertain about its validity. If it exists as a referral, maybe people will be asked, and I will be questioned.”

The investigation into Brennan follows allegations made by Ratcliffe, who declassified a review examining the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) that claimed Russia sought to influence the 2016 presidential election. This review indicated that the creation of the ICA was hurried and included “procedural anomalies” that deviated from accepted intelligence reporting standards.

Brennan’s involvement in the ICA has come under further scrutiny, as it was revealed that he had advocated for the inclusion of certain documents. Yet, during his testimony to the House Judiciary Committee in May 2023, he stated he did not believe those documents should have been part of the Intelligence Report.
