John Brennan on FBI Investigation

John Brennan, the former CIA director, has expressed that he feels “uninformed” regarding the criminal investigation the FBI has initiated against him. He mentioned that he has “not been in contact” with federal authorities about it.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, Brennan stated, “Honestly, I don’t know what’s true,” following reports that linked him to possible criminal activities in relation to the 2016 Trump-Russia conspiracy investigation.

He commented, “If there are referrals, there will be inquiries,” indicating that while he’s being questioned, he has had no direct interactions with the authorities.

Brennan, who served as the CIA director under President Barack Obama, is reportedly being investigated for allegedly misleading Congress about the Steele dossier, which contains controversial accusations connecting President Trump to Russia.

Recently, a report suggested that Brennan might have jeopardized another individual’s position when he appeared in the CIA’s “Lessons Learned Review,” stemming from the evaluation of Russian interference in the 2016 elections aimed at assisting Trump.

An email revealed that, despite pushback from two CIA Russian experts, Brennan proceeded to include questionable Steele documents in his analysis.

In a May 2017 testimony to Congress, he maintained that Steele’s documents were “not part of the corpus of information we had.” He also testified to the House Judiciary Committee six years later, asserting that the CIA was “very opposed” to referencing those documents.

Brennan stated, “I have testified over the years before various Congressional committees, clarifying precisely what actions we took during that process.” He expressed confusion regarding why they didn’t prioritize their intelligence responsibilities to avoid interference in the election.

He described the 2016 Trump investigation as a “challenging time,” reflecting the state of the intelligence community and the CIA during that period.

In another remark, he reiterated, “I’m still unsure of what exactly they are investigating me for.” Being a frequent critic of Trump, he found it “quite surprising” that an investigation would emerge after he was previously questioned by former special adviser John Durham as part of the FBI’s inquiry into the Trump-Russia origins.

Additionally, sources indicated that former FBI director James Comey disclosed he was under investigation related to the Trump-Russia matter.

A spokesperson for the Justice Department declined to comment on the ongoing investigations involving both Brennan and Comey when approached for a statement.
