Former CNN reporter discusses Biden’s health secrecy

Former CNN journalist Chris Cillizza acknowledged that there’s “plenty of evidence” suggesting that aides to former President Joe Biden concealed his cognitive decline, making reporters uncomfortable when trying to get the truth. Cillizza, who previously worked as a CNN editor and now has his platform, shared his insights as discussions around Biden’s health intensified, particularly after last June’s debate when he showed signs of frailty.

He asserted, “I think there’s now ample evidence that Joe Biden’s true physical and mental state was covered up by his White House aides.” Cillizza suspects that these aides are withholding information from the American public, but he doesn’t believe that the media is complicit in this cover-up. He expressed, “Biden’s team has made it really tough to ask questions about his health. They’ve discredited those who have tried.”

Cillizza feels that Trump’s team might not face the same treatment from the press, suggesting that some reporters may have been somewhat lenient with Biden’s team. He noted a tendency among the media to lean more favorably towards a Democratic president, unlike Trump, who has had numerous misleading statements attributed to him.

In recent weeks, Cillizza has been vocal about this issue, releasing a video titled “Why the Media Has Missed a Big Biden Story.” In it, he referenced a comment made during a White House correspondent’s dinner, where it was suggested that both the Biden administration and the media have overlooked significant concerns heading into the 2024 election.

Cillizza pointed out that there is a high threshold for directly reporting that Biden might have dementia or related conditions. He mentioned, “Even if we don’t think there’s a media-driven cover-up regarding Biden’s health, the media hasn’t pushed hard enough.” He added, “I should’ve asked more questions about Biden and his health—we should’ve investigated further.”

Last year, he admitted to having regrets about not pushing for more transparency regarding Biden’s fitness for office. “As a reporter, I have a confession… I should have demanded clearer information about Joe Biden’s mental and physical state,” he stated in a YouTube video.

Cillizza recalled being contacted by Republicans during his time at CNN, who questioned why the network didn’t address Biden’s decline more directly; he would brush those concerns aside, stating he hadn’t seen sufficient evidence to warrant it.

He reflected, “The people around Biden definitely discouraged inquiries into his physical or mental decline, which impacted my own questioning.” He confessed that while he occasionally asked about Biden’s well-being, he didn’t push hard enough. However, since leaving CNN and reassessing Biden’s age, he’s started to voice doubts more frequently, particularly after significant discussions emerged in June.
