Gloria Romero Warns of the Democratic Party’s Downfall
Gloria Romero, the former California Senate Majority Leader, expressed concerns on Tuesday about the Democratic Party, stating that it seems to be in a precarious position. “It’s a dying party,” she remarked, drawing parallels to the Whig Party’s decline over a century ago.
In her appearance on a talk show, she suggested that a new political era is emerging, advocating for a shift towards the Republican Party under Donald Trump’s influence. “This is truly a new party,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of borders and citizenship. According to her, values such as character and equality should prevail over identity politics. “We need to stop the nonsense and speak common sense,” she added.
Romero, who has aligned with other former Democrats like Tulsi Gabbard and RFK, Jr., mentioned her efforts to bring reform within her party. However, after recognizing the direction it was heading, she decided to leave for good. Her comments followed recent remarks by Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who highlighted issues of anti-Semitism and border security within the Democratic Party.
Fetterman criticized the party’s handling of these matters, stating, “Anti-Semitism is out of control. … it’s not free speech.” He acknowledged that there’s a loss of debate on these critical issues within his party.
Romero also praised efforts by certain politicians who are willing to work across party lines. Yet, she feels that many Democrats remain stuck in an ideological trap focused on identity politics. “Sadly, they still scream accusations of Nazism and racism, while denying serious issues like anti-Semitism,” she remarked, signaling a need for introspection within the party.
