Former ESPN sportscaster explains how he was ejected out of RV into traffic on highway: ‘By the grace of God, I’m still here’

The man who was hospitalized explained the circumstances. his strange exit from their RV while his wife was driving down a California highway.

Video showed the moment the car swerved to avoid colliding with former ESPN sportscaster Cordell Patrick, who was on vacation with his wife. They were driving through the city of Newhall when the accident occurred.

Patrick said he got up to go to the bathroom in the RV and noticed his wife had fallen asleep at the wheel and the car was drifting dangerously toward the median. .

“I realized that my wife was dozing off, so instead of going straight, I headed towards the median. I tried to grab the steering wheel, but before I could do so, I had already been hit,” he said.

The camper struck the median, and the impact threw Patrick out the driver's window onto the highway.

“I keep thinking about getting hit by a car,” he said. “I'm on the busiest freeway in Los Angeles County, and the only thing that went through my head was, 'I'm about to die.'”

He realized he had survived after coming to a stop on the other side of the median. He said many good Samaritans stopped and offered help.

“I just dragged myself and put my back on the median until help came. Help came quickly,” Patrick said.

He suffered numerous injuries.

“60% of my body was covered in road rash, I had a broken ankle, above the ankle, below the knee, and a broken toe.'' In addition to receiving 17 stitches, he also suffered a dislocated shoulder and lacerations to his head. he said.

The wife was not injured in the incident, nor was the other driver. A beagle dog in the car was not injured. However, the camper was largely destroyed.

He went on to say that he believes God intervened to save him.

“I'm blessed, this is a God thing,” he said. “This is strictly a God thing. By the grace of God, I'm still here, dude!”

He plans to start a podcast about his experiences.

“It was divine intervention,” Patrick concluded. “If you didn't think there was ever more power, I'm living proof and I have a living testimony to tell.”
