Anne Rutherford’s Beverly Hills Estate on the Market
Anne Rutherford, known for her role as Carrene O’Hara in the classic 1939 film “Gone with the Wind,” has placed her historic 1930s estate in Beverly Hills up for sale, listed at $42 million.
Rutherford and her husband, television producer William Dozier, resided in this French revival-style home, affectionately called Rutherford House, for many years. Dozier was notable for producing the iconic 1960s series “Batman” and “Green Hornet,” while Rutherford also featured prominently in the “Andy Hardy” films alongside Mickey Rooney.
During their time at the estate, the couple often hosted star-studded weddings, making the residence a popular spot in Hollywood social circles.
Constructed in 1938 by the esteemed architect Paul R. Williams, the home has welcomed many Hollywood luminaries over the years, including Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball.
Spanning 13,678 square feet, the estate includes five bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, and two partial bathrooms, situated on over a half-acre of land. Jacob Daddon from Sotheby’s International Realty is handling the listing.
According to the listing details, Rutherford House is described as a “unique residence” that “blends old Hollywood charm with contemporary luxury.” The entrance showcases an intricate wooden floor pattern, which leads into a formal dining area featuring expansive windows that overlook the sprawling grounds.
The main floor offers a formal living room, a bar accented with wooden panels and a marble countertop, as well as a library and billiards room enriched by Art Deco design elements from the designer Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann.
There’s also a cozy morning room adorned with 18th-century wallpaper and a classic fireplace.
The kitchen, styled in marble, boasts white wood-paneled cabinets, mosaic-tiled ceilings, and a mix of stainless-steel appliances. It features breakfast nooks with floor-to-ceiling windows, providing a serene view of the garden.
Located on the second level, the primary suite includes two marble bathrooms, a spacious dual closet, and a lounge area with views of the beautifully maintained garden. This floor also accommodates four en-suite bedrooms, an office, and family rooms.
The outdoor space includes a pavilion leading to a separate pool house, complete with an oval pool, an outdoor bar, and a spa.
Interestingly, the property last changed hands in 2018 for $27.625 million.
