Indictment of Former FBI Officials Related to Hunter Biden’s Laptop
On Friday, two former high-ranking officials of the FBI were indicted and turned themselves in following allegations linked to Hunter Biden’s controversial laptop, as stated in a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Nikki Cole Floris, 46, from Alexandria, Virginia, and 56-year-old Bradley Benavides from Aiken, South Carolina, are accused of providing false testimony to Congress in 2023.
Authorities have claimed that both former officials testified that the Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF), in which they both served, did not partake in the investigation of Hunter Biden’s laptop, as detailed in the criminal complaint.
FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned on social media that evidence, including contemporaneous communication and witness testimonies, contradicts their statements.
Interestingly, Benavides claimed he learned about the Biden case from Wikipedia. However, records allegedly indicate he had been discussing the case with other FBI agents leading up to the 2020 election.
Moreover, Floris is said to have discussed Hunter Biden frequently with FBI colleagues for over a year. Patel accused her of texting that she was “basically running a shadow government” within the FBI, and a screenshot of that text was shared by House Republicans.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro expressed strong sentiments regarding this matter, stating, “Lying to Congress by anyone strikes at the heart of our democratic system, but when senior FBI agents lie to Congress believing they are above the law, it’s time to bring the hammer of justice down on them.”
She further emphasized the gravity of their deceit, suggesting that senior officials who prioritize deception over responsibility ultimately undermine the institutions they are meant to protect.
Floris and Benavides appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C., on Friday. In court, Floris’ attorney referred to her as a “patriot,” implying that the timing of the charges might be politically motivated, aimed at swaying public opinion just before the elections.
According to the complaint, Benavides had served as a section chief with the FITF during the 2019 to 2020 election period, while Floris held the position of deputy assistant director and functional head of the FITF from 2019 until 2022.
