Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe on Thursday criticized former President Trump’s claims about parts of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
“Jim, my guess is that it’s not surprising that Donald Trump opposes the FBI’s surveillance capabilities and authority, because he’s someone who’s being investigated by the FBI.” McCabe said Appears on “CNN Newsroom” with anchor Jim Acosta. “But nevertheless, on this point he is completely wrong.”
The former president called on House Republicans to kill the bill that would reauthorize Section 702 of FISA. The clause gives the government the power to spy on foreign nationals abroad without a warrant and expires in two weeks.

McCabe said there was “absolutely no truth or accuracy” in Trump’s post. But McCabe also appeared to suggest that Trump may be talking about the FBI’s previous warrant to spy on Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
“We now know there were a lot of mistakes in FISA, and they’re all unfortunate, but that’s not Section 702, that’s a whole different thing here,” McCabe continued.
President Trump said in a post that he signed a six-year renewal of Section 702 in 2018. on social platform It said it was “not the same FISA law that was unfairly abused during the election.”

Nineteen House Republicans voted Wednesday to block consideration of the Section 702 reauthorization bill.
