Retired Firefighter Shot by Police During Investigation

A retired firefighter, suspected of possessing heinous child sexual abuse material, was shot and killed by police in Florida after he brandished a weapon. Authorities identified him as 68-year-old Gary Guckenberger, who refused orders as officers approached him at his Longwood home.

Sheriff Dennis Lemma described the material discovered during a police investigation as extremely disturbing, highlighting that it showcased horrifying examples of abuse and neglect. The police had received tips about Guckenberger’s activities, prompting the search of his home where they uncovered evidence on his device.

“As officers were monitoring the situation, Guckenberger emerged from his residence,” Lemma recounted. “He stepped into the driveway and suddenly reached for his waistband, drawing a .38 revolver.” The sheriff stated that deputies issued clear verbal commands before discharging their weapons, citing that Guckenberger was hit twice and declared dead at the scene.

Investigators indicated that Guckenberger possessed over a hundred explicit videos and images featuring children aged three to nine. Sheriff Lemma revealed that at one point, he communicated with a woman about engaging in sexual acts with her children, although it doesn’t appear that these actions had occurred.
