Former Florida GOP chair backs Harris after Helene 'trolling'

The former head of the Florida Republican Party says he supports Vice President Harris after receiving “trolling” from other Republicans over the federal government's response to Hurricane Helen.

Al Cardenas said Monday on MSNBC's “Morning Joe.” natural disasters “It's always been a bipartisan issue.”

“Democrats and Republicans alike have worked together to help those affected,” Cárdenas added. “Well, the White House has asked Congress to pass a bill, an additional bill, to really help people in these disasters, because we could run out of money, all of a sudden. Trolls and Trump operatives and everyone else started saying, “They're giving that money to illegal immigrants.” Not true. ”

Republicans, including former President Trump, have been pursuing the federal government's response to Hurricane Helen. Last week, at a rally in Saginaw, Michigan, the former president said the response was “even worse” than Hurricane Katrina.

Trump said of former President George W. Bush, “I won't name him, but one president ruined his reputation on Katrina.'' “And it's getting worse. She's doing it even worse than he is.”

When Cardenas appeared on “Morning Joe,” he said, “Harris and [Tim] Waltz may not necessarily be the ideal ticket for me, but it won't put America at risk. ”

“So I made an easy decision,” said the former Sunshine State Republican Party leader.

It's no surprise that Cárdenas supports Harris. Harris has criticized Trump in the past, including calling the president a “sneaky divisive man” in a post on social platform X in 2018. “This is an even worse social poison that will plague our country in decades to come,” he said in response to President Trump's campaign ad on immigration.

“This ad and your full endorsement will forever condemn you and your legacy of bigotry in the American history books,” Cárdenas continued in the post.

Hill contacted the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign.
