Former Georgia lieutenant governor says Trump is 'not God': 'He's a loser'

Former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan (R) criticized President Trump for rejecting the latest government funding bill after he issued an ultimatum to include proof of citizenship as a voting requirement.

During an interview on CNN's Newsnight with Abby Phillips on Wednesday, Duncan said Trump is “no god” and moreover is a “loser.”

“I don't know what's more upset. My thoughts swing every minute. Am I upset that Donald Trump is trying to sabotage good policy and legislation to keep the trains running on time, or am I upset that this epitome of stupidity has been demonstrated once again, that half the people in this room couldn't even pass high school economics and don't realise how much damage they're doing just trying to get 15 likes on Twitter,” Duncan fumed at the start of the show.

Duncan's comments came in response to a Truth Social post from Trump urging Republicans to support passing the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote, along with interim measures.

“If Republicans will not approve the SAVE Act in its entirety, they should not agree to a continuing resolution in any form,” Trump posted on the social platform on Wednesday.

Fourteen Republicans joined most Democrats in opposing the bill, and the lack of congressional support for the SAVE Act was one of the factors that ultimately led to the GOP spending plan's failure. Duncan called Philip Trump's effort “infuriating.”

“It's infuriating to see us get into this situation. We're already budgeting and we just don't want to cut a check,” he said. “If we did that at home, we'd end up going to jail, getting evicted, losing our car or getting dumped by our wives.”

The former Georgia congressman said it was time for Republicans to figure out how to create a party that “solves problems, deals with problems and works with the other side.”
