When Joanna Gaines helped her eldest son move into a new house this week, she learned more about what he’d been up to while he was away at college.
The former HGTV star shared a series of photos and videos on his Instagram Stories, including a video of him panning around the device in what he thought was a harmless game.
“Good old fashioned quoits,” she captioned the video, adding that her son corrected her, “Mom, it’s a drinking game.”
The room tour continued with a photo of a refrigerator containing only a bottle of ranch dressing and the caption, “Move-in day in college apartments.”

It was obvious this room was created with the trained eye of an interior designer as everything was beautifully decorated.
In addition to Drake, Joanna and her husband Chip have four other children: Ella, 17, Duke, 16, Emmy, 14, and Crew, 6. They rose to fame on HGTV’s home renovation show “Fixer Upper” and have since launched their own lifestyle magazine, a line of home and lifestyle products, and even their own TV network. They’ve also published cookbooks, home design books, and children’s books.

Joanna sneaked one of her books onto her son’s bookshelf, joking that she “sneaked it in for him to colour in.”
She also found a way to incorporate her son’s love of baseball into the room’s décor, hanging Babe Ruth’s famous quote, “Never let the fear of striking out stop you from playing baseball” on the wall.

In November 2023, Chip and Joanna opened up about sending their son off to college, telling People magazine that “sending my child off to college and raising a 5-year-old has been the greatest gift” and given them a different perspective on parenting.

“There’s something about the talk of Drakie going off to college that brings our eyes to the crew that this is all coming to an end,” Chip told People magazine. “And as unbelievable as it is when you’re holding a one-year-old, you know, ‘Oh my goodness, this time flies by,’ so in a way, you’re living very intentionally.”
He said it was [his] “Pay attention to your little crew” and “start living as if you were going to college tomorrow.”
The couple recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary, and told People magazine in November 2023 that they have changed over the past two decades.
