Former Football Player Secures UFC Contract

Anthony Wint, a former linebacker for the Jets, has officially signed with the UFC after an impressive performance on “Dana White’s Contender Series.” Wint secured a TKO victory over Matthew Adams just 34 seconds into their heavyweight match, overwhelming his opponent with a flurry of punches.

This victory has garnered Wint the attention of UFC President Dana White, who noted that the athlete expressed eagerness to fight again soon. After the fight, White mentioned that Wint had insisted he wouldn’t leave Las Vegas until he gets his next match, which sounds pretty ambitious, honestly.

“Wint is fun. This guy is so crazy to me,” White commented. He added, “When you join Contender and do well and feel pop, the best thing to do is stay active.” It seems like White is genuinely excited about Wint’s potential and is working on making his wish to fight at UFC Fight Night 285 on August 22 happen.

Wint holds an unbeaten record of 7-0 in MMA, which is quite impressive. The 30-year-old athlete played college football at Florida International University and joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2018, where he participated in two games before being let go the following year.

In December 2019, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League but opted out of his contract in August 2020 after the CFL season was canceled due to the pandemic.

Wint began his journey in amateur MMA in 2021. Reflecting on his transition, he noted, “I’ve played football all my life, not just football, but linebacker. So I was used to lining up against 11 guys and analyzing the entire play in 40 seconds.” He quickly adds, “The only thing left to do is dissect the human in three separate sessions.” It’s a fascinating perspective, isn’t it?
