Chris Streveler Retires from Football

Former Jets quarterback Chris Streveler shared his retirement news on social media over the weekend. He played one season with the Jets in 2022, where he had his only NFL start in Week 15 against the Jaguars.

In a heartfelt video on Instagram, Streveler stated, “I love football, but today is my last day as a football player.” He reflected on how football has provided him with incredible opportunities and helped forge lifelong friendships, noting, “I’ve been playing this game since I was 8 years old. Today I turn 31.”

Throughout his brief career, Streveler participated in nine regular season NFL games, accumulating 231 passing yards and one touchdown. Besides his time in the NFL, he also had a significant career in the Canadian Football League. He notably played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where he was instrumental in winning the 2019 Gray Cup.

His path to the NFL was somewhat circuitous. He was with the Blue Bombers from 2018 to 2019, then left to explore NFL opportunities. After a stint with the Arizona Cardinals, he eventually found himself on the practice squad for the Ravens, before a brief period with the Dolphins early in 2022. The Jets signed him in July of that year.

In 2024, he returned to the CFL and resumed playing for the Blue Bombers, registering 1,103 yards along with six touchdowns and 11 interceptions in the 2025 season.

In his farewell message, Streveler reminisced about his childhood aspirations, saying, “If I went back in time and told a kid that he was going to go on this journey with this game, he would never believe me.” He spoke candidly about the challenges he faced, including multiple ACL tears. Yet, he expressed no regrets about his journey, affirming that he maximized his talents and gave everything he had.
