Former Met Jose Quintana's return to Citi Field with the Brewers was 'intense'

Mets Triumph Over Familiar Faces

On Thursday night, the Mets faced a pitcher they know well. Jose Quintana, who spent two years with New York, was back on the mound—this time as a member of the Brewers.

In the end, the Mets triumphed over their former teammate and secured a 3-2 victory in their series.

Quintana pitched 5 ⅓ innings, allowing just a single run while recording three hits on 80 pitches. When asked about his previous time with the Mets, he had a simple answer. “It’s intense,” he noted. “You always have to give your best, or the fans will definitely let you know.”

Even though the pressure was high, Quintana mentioned he had “a great time” while playing for the Mets. In his last season with them, he had a record of 10-10, with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.

After the 2024 season, the Mets let Quintana go, allowing him to sign with the Brewers. Now at 36, he appears to be thriving with his new team. Coming into this game, he had a solid record of 6-2 and an ERA of 3.30.

Interestingly, despite being on the opposite side, Mets fans seemed to hold no grudges against him. As he entered and exited the game, many offered applause, showing their appreciation. “It felt good,” Quintana reflected. “I’ve got some really good memories from those two years. It’s been a great time.”

Quintana’s performance this season has continued to impress his new club. Manager Pat Murphy commented on Thursday’s outing, calling it one of his best this season. “He was amazing,” Murphy said. “Honestly, it might have been the best start I’ve witnessed from him, especially since I’ve also seen him pitch from the other team’s perspective.”

In the Brewers’ broader strategy, they’ve consistently shown a knack for bringing in pitchers and developing them into formidable starters. This was seen with Quintana’s new teammate Quinn Priester, who is enjoying a standout season after his own journey through other teams.

Looking forward, there’s also rising talent Jacob Misiorowski. His success could add to the Brewers’ impressive pitcher development story. And who knows? The future could hold more surprises.
