Charges Against Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore

Sherrone Moore, who was recently let go from his position as head football coach at the University of Michigan, has been charged with a series of serious offenses. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that he faces charges for third-degree felony home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering.

If found guilty on all counts, he could spend up to six years in prison. This includes five years for the home invasion charge and an additional year for stalking. Additionally, he could incur fines totaling around $3,500—$2,000 for the home invasion and $1,000 for stalking, along with $500 for breaking and entering.

Moore was arrested on Wednesday evening, shortly after his termination, in connection with an alleged incident involving unlawful entry into the home of a former romantic partner, identified as Paige Shiver, who is a staff member for the Michigan football team.

Reports suggest his firing was linked to this inappropriate relationship. Interestingly, Moore is married and has three daughters, and his affair with Shiver had only recently ended.

During Friday’s virtual arraignment, which was made accessible via a live stream, Moore’s bond was set at $25,000. His release terms include wearing a GPS ankle monitor, prohibiting contact with the alleged victim, and participating in mental health evaluations and treatment.

At the arraignment, prosecutor Kati Rezmierski recounted the alleged events, stating that Moore forcibly entered the victim’s home, took several kitchen utensils, and made threats to harm himself, saying, “I’m going to kill myself, I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands.”

Interestingly, a 911 call from Moore’s wife, Kelli, was made that same day. She expressed fears that he might harm himself after being fired. Moreover, a different 911 call reported that Moore had assaulted a woman at Shiver’s residence and had been stalking her for months, which led to police action against him later that day.

The police have yet to publicly confirm Shiver as either the victim or the 911 caller involved in these allegations. This incident marks the third investigation into Moore’s conduct regarding accusations involving women. He had been hired in 2018 by Jim Harbaugh and took over the head coach position following Harbaugh’s departure after a successful season in 2023.

Interestingly, Moore’s termination saves the university the burden of paying out the remaining $5.5 million on his contract. His case also reflects ongoing challenges within the football program, as he is the sixth recruit from Harbaugh’s era to encounter legal issues.

For now, Biff Poggi, who served as interim coach during Moore’s prior suspension, will continue leading the team as they prepare for an upcoming bowl game against Texas.

This overall negative publicity could lead to player departures via the transfer portal, which may worry donors supporting the football program.
