Sean Casey Injured During Savannah Bananas Game
Sean Casey, a former MLB All-Star known for his time with the Cincinnati Reds, reportedly sustained significant injuries while playing with the popular Savannah Bananas on Friday night.
Jim Day, a broadcaster for the Fan Duel Sports Network, described how Casey tore his hamstring while attempting to run the bases during a game held at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark against the Detroit Tigers. “When you’re 51, it’s real,” Day remarked.
The incident happened in the seventh inning. Casey was on base when the ball eluded the catcher, prompting him to take off for first base. Day recalls the crowd’s excitement: “He was rolling up to second, and everyone was cheering.” Unfortunately, that’s when Casey grabbed his hamstring.
Initially, Day thought Casey was just playing with the audience, joking about his age and the difficulty of running. But it turned out that he seriously injured himself.
After the injury, the team swiftly sent in a pinch runner to replace Casey, who then exited the field. In a post on social media, Casey reflected on the moment, expressing gratitude for having played in front of devoted fans, which he described as the “greatest” in the world.
It’s a reminder—injuries can happen to anyone, even those who were once at the top of their game. Overall, the big-hearted, entertaining spectacle of the Savannah Bananas continues to draw attention, but such moments remind us of the realities of sports.
