A former cheerleader for the Cavaliers, now working as a prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested for DUI in March. The incident unfolded in a parking lot in Edgewater, New Jersey, where she was found on the ground.
Footage released recently shows Brie Atchison in distress when police discovered her around 8:19 PM ET on March 8, 2025.
A good Samaritan, who follows her on YouTube, had alerted the police, identifying an officer named Evan Bringas. They followed him to the parking lot just minutes before he found Atchison.
As she lay on the ground, Atchison repeatedly called out, “Mamaaa,” to which she responded with confusion, asking the officers if they knew where they were.
When another officer arrived, she claimed to be fine, but Bringas questioned why she was on the ground with her car on the curb.
They asked where she was and where she had been, while the camera revealed her car had its engine running and door open.
Atchison mentioned celebrating her 30th birthday and indicated she had been at a bar nearby.
She seemed to stumble, prompting Bringas to check on her well-being. “I just need to go home,” she said, explaining she lived close by. “Sorry, I didn’t realize this was drunk.”
She went on to cry and apologize, indicating she knew she couldn’t drive but just wanted to get home.
Bringas reminded her that she’d admitted to being drunk, while she insisted on ensuring her son’s safety and asked to call his father. However, Bringas informed her she needed to undergo a sobriety test.
In the exchange, Bringas noted he could smell alcohol nearby. Atchison continued to express concern over her son throughout the incident.
The officers eventually conducted a horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test, leading to her arrest for DUI.
She was cited for refusing a Breathalyzer/Chemical Test. Bringas mentioned to his colleagues that he only attempted the HGN test because she was unable to perform others, while she expressed disbelief over her drunken state.
During transport, Atchison reportedly damaged the police vehicle. Bringas relayed this to other officers.
It was revealed that Aitchison was initially hired at the prosecutor’s office after they recognized her during processing at the police station.
She was released on bail by her brother, but her case remains unresolved as of a few days ago.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Atchison self-reported the incident and that they are monitoring the situation closely. They ensured appropriate adjustments in her case allocation have been made, though specifics on HR matters were not disclosed.
An article from October 2015 noted Atchison’s journey to becoming a member of the Cavaliers dance team, and in 2016, she participated in the Miss Ohio Competition, as detailed on the competition’s Facebook page.
