Former NBA dunk champion Desmond Mason jailed in ugly divorce twist

Former NBA player Desmond Mason was arrested Wednesday in Oklahoma, according to Oklahoma County Jail records.

Mason, the 2001 Slam Dunk Contest winner, was jailed for contempt of court stemming from his divorce proceedings with ex-wife Andrea Mason, which TMZ alleges was unfair. Report for court hearing.

He was released from the Oklahoma County Jail Wednesday night on $50,000 bail.

Mason, 47, spent 10 seasons in the NBA from 2000 to 2009.

Mason averaged 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game during his career with the SuperSonics, Bucks, Hornets, Thunder and Kings.

Mason was selected 17th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics out of Oklahoma State University in the 2000 NBA Draft.

He played four seasons with the Cowboys, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons from 1998 to 2000, including an appearance in the Elite Eight during his senior season in 2000.

In the 2001 dunk contest, the rookie defeated the Jazz's Deshaun Stephenson and the Hornets' Baron Davis in the final.

Mason has long had an interest in art and has sold work to celebrities such as movie star George Clooney, sportscaster Joe Buck, nightlife mogul Rande Gerber and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
